At the University of Chicago Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, we want students to have access to academic and cultural resources, but to also have opportunities independent of the classroom and student life. Thus, the following is a list of opportunities where students can go to search for funding, enrich their summers or find work after graduation.

The University of Chicago Public Interest Program (UCPIP)

UCPIP Fellowships are open to graduating fourth year students of the College at the University of Chicago. UCPIP provides rich, meaningful, and productive yearlong Fellowships at public interest organizations around Chicago, with an annual stipend of $28,000 plus benefits. UCPIP Fellows gain a variety of experiences working on a wide range of projects, and are supported in many ways by the program.

A Valuable Learning Experience & Career Opportunity

UCPIP is a valuable learning experience and introduction to the public interest sector, no matter which academic field of study you pursued or what professional career you are considering for the future. It is a chance to put your skills to practical use on behalf of organizations that contribute to the public interest, to interact with citizens and communities in Chicago outside of campus. Fellows have worked at community newspapers, immigrant networks, government agencies, schools, community technology centers, and more.
For applicants who aspire to work in the public interest sector, UCPIP presents an entry-level position in an industry otherwise difficult to approach. It is an opportunity to turn a passion into a career. Many organizations have hired Fellows on after their one-year fellowship term.
