2012 Summer FLAS Deadline Extended!

We are pleased to announce a second call for applications to the FLAS (Foreign Language Area Studies) Fellowship competition in selected world areas during selected terms as follows:

2012 Summer FLAS

EAST EUROPE (Armenian, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian (BCS), Czech, Georgian, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Uzbek)

LATIN AMERICA (Haitian Creole, Portuguese, K’iche’ Maya; other eligible languages)

SOUTH ASIA (Bengali, Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan, Urdu)

SHORT-TERM TRAVEL GRANTS (STG) PROGRAM (IREX)

Scholars interested in STG can apply to conduct research in up to two countries for up to eight weeks. As part of the STG fellowship, participants are provided with visa assistance, international roundtrip transportation, a monthly allowance for housing and living expenses, and emergency evacuation insurance. STG applicants must have a graduate degree (PhD, MA, MD, MBA, MFA, MPA, MPH, MLIS, MS, JD) at the time of application and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

NSEP David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships

Deadlines are approaching for the 2010-11 academic year competition for NSEP David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships. Boren Awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to become more proficient in the cultures and languages of world regions critical to the future security of our nation, such as in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Boren Scholarships, for undergraduate students, provide up to $20,000 for an academic year's study abroad.

Application Deadline: February 10, 2010
