At the University of Chicago Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, we want students to have access to academic and cultural resources, but to also have opportunities independent of the classroom and student life. Thus, the following is a list of opportunities where students can go to search for funding, enrich their summers or find work after graduation.

Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL)

The Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL) is a teacher-training and school management not-for-profit based in Chicago, Illinois. AUSL runs a one- year residency program for those who want to become qualified, well-trained teachers in Chicago Public Schools. The residency program is open to anyone from recent college graduates to career changers. At AUSL, we believe that the quality of the teacher, makes a world of difference in the classroom, which is why we invest so much into our residency program.

AUSL also manages fourteen of Chicago’s Public Schools. Seven of those fourteen schools are training academies, where the residents spend their year training. The other seven are turnaround schools that CPS allows AUSL to manage. The turnaround schools are chronically-failing schools in high- poverty, underserved areas of the city. Under the management of AUSL, students test scores show improvement, setting them on the path for success.

AUSL is currently recruiting for the residency program. There are two remaining deadlines; February 15th and April 1st. To get more information or to apply please visit our website at www.ausl-chicago.org.
