At the University of Chicago Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, we want students to have access to academic and cultural resources, but to also have opportunities independent of the classroom and student life. Thus, the following is a list of opportunities where students can go to search for funding, enrich their summers or find work after graduation.

2010 Young Women's Summer Intensive

The 2010 Young Women's Summer Intensive is currently accepting applicants!

The YWSI is a series of workshops and retreats to build community and programming for young lesbian and bisexual women of color. The YWSI takes on the complex relationship between gender and leadership as a starting point to develop action-oriented leadership plans. The YWSI supports young women to challenge inequality through a transformative process exploring how, as women of color, we can take charge of our bodies, our education, our environment, and our lives.

YWSI participants will participate in several social activities, including field trips throughout the 10 week program. They will receive a stipend every two weeks of $9-$11/hour – depending on age. The intensive runs 4 days a week, for 5 hours a day.

The Summer Intensive is absolutely FREE. Young Women will be supervised by members of the Youth Pride Center’s Women’s Advisory Board and volunteers/professionals in the field. (773)690-6790 for more information or youthpridecenter@gmail.com
