At the University of Chicago Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, we want students to have access to academic and cultural resources, but to also have opportunities independent of the classroom and student life. Thus, the following is a list of opportunities where students can go to search for funding, enrich their summers or find work after graduation.

The University of Chicago Association of Black Alumni Award

The University of Chicago Association of Black Alumni Award
Application Deadline: May 28, 2010

Description
The University of Chicago Association of Black Alumni (UCABA) was revitalized in 2007 as a support organization for Black Alumni of the University of Chicago. We strive to build professional ties with former classmates and build stronger ties with the University community at large. We seek to mentor and support current and prospective students in pursuit of their respective degrees.

As such, our aim is to honor and recognize outstanding graduating students of African and Black-American descent each year. For this, our inaugural award year, the UCABA Board is seeking one female and one male student who have displayed outstanding potential for future success, positive personal character, and exceptional contributions and involvement in the student, academic, Chicago, or world community.

Application Process
A review committee composed of members of the UCABA Board and staff members of the University will review applications and select the recipients. The winners will be honored at the Black Alumni Brunch on June 5, 2010. To be considered for the award, each student must complete the one-page application form, submit a personal statement not to exceed 300 words and two letters of support: one of which must be from a University faculty member or alumnus of the University, and one from a peer. Documents must be physically delivered to Ronnie Rios at the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs no later than 5pm on Friday, May 28, 2010.

Contact Jennifer Gage for the one page application form and if you have any other questions (gagejc@gmail.com).
