At the University of Chicago Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, we want students to have access to academic and cultural resources, but to also have opportunities independent of the classroom and student life. 2011 Call for Abstracts - UIC Minority Health Conference

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) School of Public Health invites emerging scholars, community leaders and researchers from all disciplines to submit an abstract for oral or poster presentations for the 3rd Annual Minority Health in the Midwest Conference.

Topics should relate to the conference theme “The Promise of Health Equity: Advancing the Discussion to Eliminate Disparities in the 21st Century” and/or to the specified topics listed below. Submissions that focus on issues pertinent to Midwestern communities and minority, under-served and special needs populations are especially encouraged. Abstracts from research and/or practice-oriented projects from community members or organizations are welcome.

Abstract Submission Deadline: Friday, January 14, 2011

Topics should reflect the elimination of minority health disparities including:
  • Policy agenda towards eliminating health inequities
  • Collaborative partnerships from bench to bedside to community
  • Interventions addressing environmental health or occupational safety issues
  • Models for advancing cultural sensitivity in the health care industry
  • Contributions of social media applied to public health issues that impact “minorities”
  • Eliminating health inequities among “minorities” in the prison systems
  • Social justice models for addressing the impact of racism on health
  • Interventions addressing chronic health disparities that balance the racial inequities to care
  • The use of technology in addressing health inequity in minority communities
  • Eradicating health inequities through community participatory research
Required abstract structure: title, author name(s), credentials, affiliation(s), topic , background, objectives, methods, results and implications for minority health and presentation format preference (poster, oral or no preference) Maximum length: 250 words.

Presenters will be notified of acceptance by January 28, 2011. All presenters are expected to register for the Conference. All accepted abstracts will be included in the Conference program.
