At the University of Chicago Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, we want students to have access to academic and cultural resources, but to also have opportunities independent of the classroom and student life. Thus, the following is a list of opportunities where students can go to search for funding, enrich their summers or find work after graduation.

2011-2012 Líderes Empowered: Advancing an Agenda for Change program

With support from ConAgra Foods and Sodexo, Inc., the NCLR Líderes Initiative is awarding three $10,000 grants to NCLR Affiliates (one of the three Affiliates must be located in Chicago, IL) to participate in the 2011–2012 Líderes Empowered: Advancing an Agenda for Change program. This series of Congresos and local advocacy activities will equip, empower, and enable students to pursue future leadership positions.

Participants follow a ten-month curriculum that incorporates civic engagement training, community service, and professional development activities. In addition, students use community needs assessments as a tool for youth-led advocacy. Program members receive training in conducting and synthesizing the results of the needs assessment, and they report to the
Líderes Network on their activities as both NCLR National Latino Advocacy Days and the 2012 Líderes Summit.

The deadline for applications is Monday, September 12, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. EDT.
