At the University of Chicago Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, we want students to have access to academic and cultural resources, but to also have opportunities independent of the classroom and student life. Thus, the following is a list of opportunities where students can go to search for funding, enrich their summers or find work after graduation.

2012 Summer FLAS Deadline Extended!

We are pleased to announce a second call for applications to the FLAS (Foreign Language Area Studies) Fellowship competition in selected world areas during selected terms as follows:

2012 Summer FLAS

EAST EUROPE (Armenian, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian (BCS), Czech, Georgian, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Uzbek)

LATIN AMERICA (Haitian Creole, Portuguese, K’iche’ Maya; other eligible languages)

SOUTH ASIA (Bengali, Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan, Urdu)

2012-13 Academic Year FLAS*

Completed applications and accompanying materials must be submitted to the appropriate Dean of Students Office by 5:00 p.m. on APRIL 11, 2012.  Download applications from the Graduate Student Affairs (GSA) website http://grad-affairs.uchicago.edu/programs/flas.shtml and e-mail questions to Devin O’Rourke dorourke@uchicago.edu.
