At the University of Chicago Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, we want students to have access to academic and cultural resources, but to also have opportunities independent of the classroom and student life. Thus, the following is a list of opportunities where students can go to search for funding, enrich their summers or find work after graduation.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: Faculty Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching

The University of Chicago recognizes and honors annually up to four regular, full-time faculty members in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, and the Divinity School for sustained exemplary teaching.

Graduate students wishing to nominate a faculty member should work with their departments to compile a nominating packet that includes:
1. Letters of nomination from individual students Nomination letters with group signatures will not be accepted. Each letter must be from an individual student. Nomination packets must include letters from at least three students.
2. A letter of nomination from the departmental chair If the current departmental chair is being nominated, a previous chair or the director of graduate studies may provide the departmental letter of support.
3. The nominee’s curriculum vitae

Letters of nomination should address the specific contributions, programs, and approaches that qualify the faculty member for the award. These letters can include information and examples about advising and mentoring students, helping to expand student opportunities, developing and running workshops, helping students in their professional development, and contributing to the quality of the overall student experience.

Materials should be addressed to: Selection Committee—Faculty Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching. Complete nomination packets should be delivered to the Office of the Deputy Provost for Graduate Education (ADM 521) by April 5, 2010.
Please note that students may nominate and departments may endorse more than one faculty member from a department.
