At the University of Chicago Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, we want students to have access to academic and cultural resources, but to also have opportunities independent of the classroom and student life. LaHSEP Summer 2011 Student Mentor Positions


The Hispanic Center of Excellence (HCOE) in partnership with the Latin American Recruitment and Educational Services (LARES) Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is offering a summer academic enrichment program for Chicago high school students.

LaHSEP is looking for 10 undergraduate students that can fill mentor positions from June 20th to July 29th: Monday-Thursday 8:30am-12:30pm & Fridays 8:30am-3:30pm.

Summer Program Mentor duties will consist of:
  • Mentoring 10 students for during a six week summer academic enrichment program
  • Attend a Mentor Orientation (date and time to be determined)
  • Create team building exercises for students
  • Assist students with creating personal program goals
  • Explore college/university programs and scholarship opportunities with mentees
  • Develop and implement academic and skill development workshops
  • Lead reflection/discussions with mentees
  • Support program staff during Scavenger Hunt and field trips
  • Attend weekly meetings with LaHSEP Executive team
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator
