The
University of Chicago Collegiate Scholars Program (UCCSP) is a
three-year enrichment program for Chicago public high school students.
UCCSP provides talented students with
various academic, cultural, social and community service opportunities
designed to help students succeed at outstanding institutions of higher
education. The Collegiate Scholars Program is looking for individuals to
provide teaching assistance to rising sophomores
in high school during an intensive six week summer humanities course.
This position will be needed from June 25, 2012 through August 3, 2012.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist the professor with grading papers and provide detailed feedback
- Take attendance daily and email to CSP Upperclassman Coordinator
- Assist students with grammar, mechanics, and structure of essays
- Facilitate peer revisions and workshop essays
- Hold office hours weekly if necessary/ or deemed by the professor
- Attend all required meetings and a Faculty Orientation Session (June 1st) prior to the beginning of the summer session
- Assist in Culminating Event preparation
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience teaching writing to high school and/or college students
- Ability to work with diverse populations is essential, especially Chicago public high school students
- A pleasant and flexible attitude
- Demonstrated commitment to the pursuit of higher education and youth interests
- Ability to work as a team player
